Haridwar, 4 Jun: Following the suspension of former Haridwar District Magistrate Karmendra Singh, IAS officer Mayur Dixit today assumed charge as the new District Magistrate of Haridwar. After taking over, Dixit mentioned good governance as his top priority and also issued a stern warning to the district officials, stating that the officers and the employees failing to perform their duties diligently should be prepared for action.

The new DM of Haridwar, Dixit emphasised that the upcoming monsoon season and the Kanwar Mela are his immediate priorities. He stressed the importance of ensuring the Kanwar Mela concludes peacefully. Dixit also made it clear that he would not tolerate any negligence by the officials in duties.

He affirmed that well-performing officers would be supported, while negligent officers and employees would not be spared. He stated that efforts would be made to ensure all government schemes reach the common public. He also added that he would conduct surprise inspections periodically and seek feedback from the public. If any negligence or complaint against an official is received, action would be initiated against them.

Calling the monsoon season his immediate priority, Dixit announced that a meeting would be held to review the Municipal Corporation’s preparedness for the monsoon. Any necessary work would be completed expeditiously.

The new DM asserted that his immediate focus will also be on the Kanwar Mela, preparations must be completed on schedule. He added that law and order and development would be his overall priorities.

It may be recalled that in connection with the Haridwar land scam, the government yesterday suspended seven officers, including then DM Karmendra Singh, then Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary, and then SDM Ajayveer Singh. Prior to this, action had already been taken against five other individuals.

Dixit’s appointment comes at a crucial time when the administration is under intense scrutiny following the land scam revelations. The government’s swift action in suspending officials reflects its intent to uphold transparency and accountability.
