Dehradun, 8 Jul: In the ongoing monsoon season of 2025–26, a total of 154 roads across Uttarakhand have been blocked due to heavy rainfall and landslides. Out of these, traffic movement has been restored on 30 roads as of today, while restoration work on the remaining 124 roads is underway on a war footing.

Providing this information, State Public Works Minister Satpal Maharaj informed that due to intense rainfall and landslides, 67 roads under the Public Works Department (PWD) were initially closed. Of these, 12 have been reopened, and work is in progress on the remaining 55 roads. Additionally, 2 National Highways (NH), 1 BRO road, and 1 NHIDCL road remain blocked. Under the PMGSY scheme, 83 roads were affected—of which 16 have been reopened.

Currently, 644 machines are deployed to reopen the remaining 124 blocked roads across the state.

Minister Maharaj instructed departmental officials to ensure that all their phones and mobile devices remain active during the monsoon period so that accurate and timely information regarding road closures can be shared with the public. He emphasised that, in light of the inconvenience faced by travellers, there must be no negligence in road clearance operations.

He added that if any road is closed during the monsoon, prior information should be provided to travellers at their preceding stations, along with details of alternative routes, to help them reach their destinations without difficulty.
