Dehradun, 11 Sep:  BJP State Media In-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan today described the Rs 1,200 crore relief granted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Uttarakhand as timely initial and interim assistance and said that the Prime Minister is the guide and true well-wisher of the state. He remarked that the Congress party’s attempt to belittle the immediate relief is an imprudent statement and it must exercise patience.
Chauhan said that Modi personally visited the state to assess the disaster situation, reviewed the rescue operations, and also interacted with the affected people. He stated that at present the Central team is conducting an assessment of the losses caused in the state and, on that basis, funds will be released at the Central level to compensate for the damages.
Chauhan while acknowledging the fact that the state has suffered heavy losses due to floods and rains, criticised Congress for comparing the present disaster with the tragedy of 2013, terming it incorrect. He recalled that at that time Kedarnath was devastated and thousands had lost their lives. The then Central government had provided a relief package which was negligible, and it was only after Modi’s involvement that Kedarnath could be rebuilt. Even then, much of the financial aid was lost to corruption. He alleged that the state government of that time was so negligent that it did not even receive proper information about the disaster for four days, let alone 24 hours.
Chauhan said that it is Uttarakhand’s good fortune that Modi has a deep attachment with the state. As in the past, during every calamity he has displayed sensitivity and concern for the people. He expressed confidence that with Central support the state will soon recover from the present crisis.
