Haridwar, 22 Sep: Acting on the directives of District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, the Haridwar police administration carried out an anti-encroachment drive against those occupying government land along the roadside for commercial activities. Illegal structures were demolished and a clear warning was issued against any future encroachments on public land. According to sources, most of these encroachers were from a particular community and hailed from Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the local residents, a contractor from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, engaged in the sale of peanuts, has been repeatedly setting up temporary shops around the Prem Nagar Ashram bridge on the Haridwar highway. The locals assert that the encroachment on land belonging to the highway and irrigation departments not only obstructs smooth passage but has become a major cause of frequent accidents in the area.

Moreover, the influx of outsiders in this sensitive stretch has raised security concerns and as alleged by locals, has led to the encouragement of immoral activities. Troubled by this, the residents apprised District Magistrate Dixit of the situation and pressed for action against the illegal encroachments.

Following his orders, the Tehsildar accompanied by police personnel moved swiftly to demolish the encroachments and warned of stringent action against any recurrence. The District Magistrate has further instructed officials to maintain a strict vigil on those arriving from outside and attempting to occupy government land. He has made it clear that responsibility would rest with the officer concerned if such encroachments are reported in their jurisdiction.
