Dehradun, 17 Oct: A detailed discussion was held today among the officials at the Directorate of Industries on the theme “Vocal for Local”. It was underlined during the meeting that self-employment is the backbone of India’s economic system. While large industries generate employment on a massive scale, small and cottage industries play an equally vital role in innovation, local productivity, and export promotion.

The Chief Minister has launched several transformative schemes such as the Single Self-Employment Scheme, Sarkar Bani Akeli Mahila Ki Saheli, and the Sashakt Udyami Mahila Yojana, which are benefitting abandoned, divorced, destitute, crime-affected, acid attack survivors, and single women. Moreover, numerous Central and State Government initiatives like Mission Vatsalya, Matru Bandhan Yojana, Nari Shakti Bandhan Adhiniyam, and the Lakhpati Didi Yojana have already empowered over 1.5 lakh women to become financially independent as “Lakhpati Didis”.

It was stated that the vision is to make the state an attractive destination for investment and ensure equal participation of Uttarakhand in the race for development. Through skill development, the aim is to reduce unemployment while enhancing knowledge, efficiency, and work competence so that individuals can perform their tasks more effectively.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently strived to make India self-reliant, with an emphasis on ensuring that small and large Indian industries gain global recognition. In this direction, the recent historic step of reducing GST rates will greatly benefit indigenous industries. Products will now become more affordable and competitive, creating new opportunities for village-based cottage industries, handicrafts, and home-grown manufacturing units. Campaigns like Make in India and Vocal for Local will gain significant momentum.

This reform will have a highly positive impact on women. With reduced production costs, goods will enter markets at lower prices, resulting in higher sales and better profit margins. This will not only grant global identity to local industries but will also provide new heights to women entrepreneurs. It is truly a historic step towards making half of India’s population self-reliant and empowered.

All citizens of the state were urged to adopt locally-made products and lend their voice in support of Vocal for Local, contributing collectively towards the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The programme was attended by Joint Director Anupam Dwivedi, Joint Director Deepak Murari, Joint Director Chanchal Bora, Deputy Director Rajendra Kumar, and Deputy Director Mahaveer Sajwan, among others.
