SBSU Scholars win ‘Young Scientist Award’ at 20th Uttarakhand State S&T Conference

Dehradun, 2 Dec: Sardar Bhagwan Singh University (SBSU), Dehradun, celebrated a moment of great pride as its research scholars, Pradyumna Ghoshal and Arti Chamoli, were honoured with the prestigious Young Scientist Award at the concluding ceremony of the 20th Uttarakhand State Science and Technology Conference (USSTC-2025).

The three-day conference, organised by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) in Dehradun, highlighted excellence in scientific research and innovation, with the Young Scientist Award being one of its most coveted honours for scholars below 35 years of age. Prof (Dr) Gaurav Deep Singh, President of SBSU, congratulated the awardees, stating that the recognition reflects the hard work of the scholars and the strong research ecosystem built by the university, reaffirming SBSU’s commitment to promoting innovation and inquiry that address real-world challenges.

Prof (Dr) J Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SBSU, also extended his warm congratulations, emphasising that the award affirms the rigour, relevance, and global standards of research at the university. Pradyumna Ghoshal received the award for his work titled “In-vitro Evaluation of Garhwal Himalaya Medicinal Plant Solanum xanthocarpum”, carried out under the guidance of Dr Neetu Pandey, an expert in carbohydrate chemistry. Arti Chamoli was recognised for her research on “Transformation and Stabilization of Ammonia Using Microbes and Biochar,” supervised by Dr Santosh Kumar Karn, whose research interests include environmental biotechnology, genomics, proteomics and extremoenzymes. The pioneering contributions of both scholars underscore SBSU’s commitment to high-impact research that addresses the socio-economic and environmental challenges of the region and the nation, it was stated. Their achievement is expected to inspire the university’s undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, underscoring the vital role of young researchers in advancing the scientific vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
