NEW DELHI, 3 Jan: A meeting of the agitators was held at the Press Club of Delhi on Saturday evening to review preparations for the protest. The meeting was attended by Dhirendra Pratap, Vice-president and Spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee; Haripal Rawat, former Joint Secretary of the Congress; Dev Singh Rawat, journalist and president of the Agitators’ Coordination Committee; prominent social activists Shashi Mohan Kala and Digmohan Negi; former East Delhi Congress president Laxman Singh Rawat; well-known social workers Anil Pathak and Hari Singh Rana; journalists Charu Tiwari and Pramod Pant, among many others.
During the meeting, the preparations for the protest scheduled for Sunday were reviewed, and the obstacles allegedly being created by the government and the police in organising the protest were termed unjustified.
All leaders stated that the upcoming protest would be a symbolic demonstration by people from Uttarakhand residing in Delhi. However, they warned that if the accused in the case are not arrested and action is not taken against them within the next 10–15 days, the people of Uttarakhand in Delhi will organise a large-scale mass protest at the BJP headquarters in the coming days.
It was also decided that in the coming days, public awareness campaigns regarding the Ankita Bhandari case will be conducted in various localities of Delhi. Candle marches and other programmes will be organised to mobilise people, culminating in a major satyagraha around January 26.
Meanwhile, Dhirendra Pratap, Central Chief Patron of the Chinhit Rajya Andolankari Sanyukt Samiti, has appealed to state movement activists across Uttarakhand to participate in the protest scheduled to be held tomorrow in Dehradun, giving a call of ‘Chalo Dehradun’.
