Dehradun, 15 Jan: The Asmita Women’s Athletics League is being organised by the District Athletics Association, Dehradun, at Maharana Pratap Sports College here on 25 January.
KJS Kalsi, Secretary of the District Athletics Association, Dehradun, stated that the Asmita Women’s Athletics League is being organised across India under Khelo India, through the joint efforts of Dr Lalit Bhanot, President of the South Asian Athletics Federation, the Athletics Federation of India, and the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, to increase women’s participation in sports and identify their talent at a young age.
Sandeep Sharma, President of the District Athletics Association, said that girls in the Under-14 and Under-16 age groups will be able to participate in this league.
The events for the Under-14 age group will include Triathlon A (60 meters, long jump and high jump), Triathlon B (60 meters, long jump, 1 kg shot put back throw), Triathlon C (60 meters, long jump, 600 meters), and Kids Javelin. The events for the Under-16 age group will include 60 metres, 600 metres, high jump, long jump, shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw.
For this competition, athletes participating in the Under-14 age group must have been born between December 21, 2011, and December 20, 2013, and girls in the Under-16 age group must have been born between December 21, 2009, and December 20, 2011.
All participating girls can register and collect their bib numbers at Maharana Pratap Sports College on January 24, from 3 to 5 p.m., by bringing their date of birth certificate, Aadhaar card, and school ID card.
The events will begin at 9:30 a.m. on 25 January. The role of judges in the competition will be performed by trained officials from the District Athletics Association Dehradun. There is no registration fee for this competition, and participants must be from Dehradun district.
