Awareness camp organised by District Legal Services Authority in Someshwar

Almora, 12 Dec: Under the direction of Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority, Nainital, a multi-purpose legal awareness and literacy camp was organised at Ramlila Ground, Almora Road, Someshwar under the chairmanship of Shashi Sharma, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Almora.

The camp was inaugurated by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority. The general public and students present were made aware about the establishment and functions of NALSA, SALSA, District Legal Services Authority, various schemes of NALSA, rights of women, children, transgenders, senior citizens, etc. They were also told about the NALSA toll-free helpline number 15100, child helpline number- 1098, free legal aid, etc. The NALSA theme song was also played on the occasion.

Certificates were given to the students who participated in cultural programmes and street plays in the camp and walking sticks, wheelchairs, hearing aids, etc., were provided to other beneficiaries. Free health check-ups were conducted by the Health Department at the camp, free medicines were distributed and disability certificates were also made.

The Haidakhan Charitable Trust, Chilianaula, Ranikhet, conducted free eye tests. Officials from other departments provided information about their departments’ welfare schemes, provided benefits under various schemes, issued cards, and set up stalls.

The Chief Education Officer, District Education Officer, Block Education Officer, Station House Officer, Someshwar, and Tehsildar, Someshwar, were present at the camp. Students from various schools presented Saraswati Vandana, welcome songs, street plays, and Kumaoni dances. The Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, inspected stalls set up by various departments and inquired about the assistance and benefits provided to the public. Adhikar Mitra from Dwarahat, Takula, and Almora assisted the public through help desks and legal stalls, distributing approximately 1,000 free Saral Legal Gyan Mala books and pamphlets. Approximately 5,500 people benefited from the camp.
