Dehradun, 26 Dec: BJP is likely to announce the names of all authorised candidates for the civic elections by tomorrow evening, with a focus on giving more opportunities to women beyond the reserved seats.
This was shared by State Party President Mahendra Bhatt, during an informal chat with the media persons. Bhatt stated that after two days of discussions, the party has prepared a panel of names for all civic seats. The State Election Committee will finalise the names for Nagar Palika and Nagar Panchayat Presidents, while the names of Corporation Mayors would be sent to the central leadership for approval. Bhatt expressed hope that all names will be received from the central leadership by tomorrow evening, after which the candidates for Municipal Chairmen and Nagar Panchayat Chairmen, along with Corporations, will be announced by the party. The process for corporators, councillors, members, and ward members is nearly complete, and most of their names will also be announced by tomorrow, Bhatt indicated.
Regarding the representation of women, Bhatt emphasised that the BJP has always received the blessings of women. He claimed that the Modi government at the Centre and the Dhami government in the state have done significant work for women’s interests. Bhatt noted that apart from the reserved seats, women candidates are being considered also on many general candidates. This will ensure more than 33 percent representation for women.
Addressing the issue of more candidates and newly included claimants, Bhatt claimed that being the winning party, BJP naturally attracts more candidates, which is a positive sign. He mentioned that the commitment to the party, popularity among the public, and chances of winning will be assessed for both new and old party loyal candidates. Bhatt expressed happiness that the names have been finalised according to all prescribed procedures and that everyone will unite to ensure their victory.
