Dehradun, 11 Dec: Chief Electoral Officer Dr BVRC Purushottam convened a review meeting with District Magistrates from all districts via video conference at the Secretariat here today to assess preparations for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. The discussion focused on voter outreach at the district and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) levels, alongside the prompt formation of Booth Awareness Groups (BAG).
Purushottam emphasised that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) must actively engage with voters within their jurisdictions through the “BLO Outreach Campaign,” ensuring continuous contact, coordination, and dialogue. He also directed the district magistrates to regularly oversee BLO field visits and furnish routine reports directly to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. The CEO further instructed that all the queries raised by voters via the Voter Helpline Number regarding electoral rolls be addressed promptly and comprehensively. To facilitate this, efficient helpdesks must be set up at district and ERO offices with clearly defined responsibilities for the officers in charge.
Additionally, the Chief Electoral Officer also stressed on the need for immediate completion of Booth Awareness Groups’ establishment at every polling station to enhance voter awareness and engagement. Among those present at the meeting included Additional Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Kishan Singh Negi, Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Mastu Das, and the District Magistrates of all districts joining virtually to discuss and align on the directives.
