Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 11 Dec:  At an international conference held at Graphic Era, scientists, researchers, and experts from different countries discussed how chemistry is becoming more important for achieving sustainable development goals. They also shared new research and simple, practical solutions.

At Graphic Era Deemed University, the international conference on the role of chemistry in sustainable development goals began today. The Chief Guest, Director, Bureau of Indian Standards, Dehradun, Dr Saurabh Tiwari, said that sustainable development should not stay only in books. It must be followed in daily life. He said, “Chemistry is the base of our planet and guides us towards a safer future—it is present everywhere, from the air we breathe to its use in industries.”

Dr Tiwari said that the Earth’s natural resources are reducing very fast, and to save them for the coming generations, we must start working now. He stressed the need for green technology, proper waste management, and saving energy.

Pro Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University, Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma said that chemistry is very important. It can cause problems like pollution and loss of resources, but the same science can also give solutions to protect the Earth and improve its resources. He said that issues like falling AQI, soil damage, water pollution, and shrinking natural resources are increasing. He added that youth should stay curious and work to find new solutions for a better future.

The International conference includes six technical sessions where experts will discuss responsible chemical innovations, environment-friendly methods, and how chemistry can support sustainable solutions. Scientists, researchers, and experts from more than 50 universities in India and abroad will present their research papers, abstracts, and ideas.

The conference was organised by the Department of Chemistry, Graphic Era Deemed University. Registrar, Dr Naresh Kumar Sharma, Head of Chemistry Department, Dr Abhilasha Mishra, Dr Wasim Ahmad, Dr Harish Chandra Joshi, and other faculty members and experts participated via online and offline medium.
