Dehradun, 15 Jan: Padma Shri awardee Prof Dr BKS Sanjay, President, AIIMS Guwahati, at the invitation of the Varanasi Orthopaedic Association (VOA), delivered the prestigious Prof TP Shrivastava Oration. This was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to orthopaedics, medical education, public health advocacy, and social service.

Delivering the oration in Varanasi, Prof Dr Sanjay emphasised that the role of doctors must extend beyond the operation theatre. He urged medical professionals to actively participate in prevention, awareness, and societal transformation, highlighting that doctors are not only surgeons but also educators, communicators, and leaders in nation-building.

Sharing his vision, Prof Dr Sanjay elaborated on his multi-dimensional “7D Approach” for effective professional and social engagement. He explained that impactful work begins with Documentation, followed by Display and Demonstration to establish credibility. This should lead to Dissemination of knowledge and meaningful Dialogue with society and stakeholders, enabling informed Decision-making, and culminating in effective Delivery of outcomes on the ground.

He stressed that a healthy nation forms the backbone of a Viksit Bharat, and that the 7D framework is not limited to the medical fraternity alone but is equally relevant across all professions. According to him, this structured approach can empower professionals from diverse fields to contribute meaningfully to national development and help realise the vision of Viksit Bharat as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Senior orthopaedic surgeons and office bearers of the Varanasi Orthopaedic Association lauded Prof Dr. Sanjay for his lifelong dedication to patient care, academic excellence, and public health initiatives. They described the Prof TP Shrivastava Oration as one of the Association’s most respected honours, awarded to individuals who have made a lasting impact at the national level.
