Dehradun, 25 Dec: An art exhibition, ‘A Festival of Children’s Art’, was organised today at Kala Kendra, located at Buddha Chowk, here, to commemorate the 101st Birth Anniversary of the late artist Dr Dwijen Sen.

Kala Kendra, the oldest art school in Dehradun, was established in 1949 by Dr Dwijen Sen, fondly known as “Dada”. A distinguished alumnus of Shantiniketan, he earned his Diploma in Fine Arts from Vishwabharati during the era of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. To this day, Kala Kendra remains a hub of artistic learning, nurturing the craft of art in students.

Dr Dwijen Sen passed away in 2004, and since then, an annual exhibition of drawings, paintings, sculptures, and pottery has been organised from 25 December every year in his memory.

This year, the Dwijen Sen Memorial Annual Exhibition has provided a platform for school children to display their creative talents beyond the boundaries of their schools. The event has been dedicated to showcasing the artistic genius of students from various institutions in Dehradun, connecting them with the broader community and celebrating their creativity.

The students have, in this exhibition, showcased portraits of famous personalities, sceneries, contemporary and traditional art forms, and more in various media. This year the Exhibition will be open for the public from 25 December to 4 January.

Apart from the students of Kala Kendra, participants included students from Aasra Trust, St Jude’s School, Doon Girls’ School, Siddhartha Public School, Summerfield School, Herbertpur, John Martin Memorial School, Olympus High School, Montessori School, Scholars’ Home, Purkal Youth Development Society, Jaswant Modern School, and others.

Present on the occasion were S Ravi Shankar, Vibha Puri Das, Colonel Vijay Dougall (Retd), Meera Dougall, Ashish Baran Mishra, Dr BK Joshi, parents of the students, and several distinguished guests and dignitaries. All attendees thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition and enthusiastically appreciated the efforts of the students.
