Dehradun, 15 Jul: The issue of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami laying the foundation stone of a ‘Kedarnath temple’ in Burari in Delhi, recently, has snowballed into a major political issue.

The Congress is making every effort to make a big issue out of it and encash on the sentiments of the people, totally forgetting the fact that a similar Kedarnath temple was also established in Navi Mumbai and the then Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat had laid its foundation stone.

Despite a clarification by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, yesterday, that there can’t be another Kedarnath Dham, the entire episode has been turned into a major political issue by the Congress. Questions are being raised about the Bhoomi Pujan and foundation stone laying of the temple by CM Dhami. The Congress has also involved some Teerth Purohits in this controversy who have expressed their “anguish” against the construction of a Kedarnath Temple in Delhi. It has become such a hot topic that the Chairman of Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC), Ajendra Ajay had to come to the defence of the government. On the direction of CM Dhami, Ajendra Ajay today issued a statement today, categorically asserting that the Uttarakhand Government has nothing to do with the construction of the Kedarnath temple in Delhi.

The government has not provided any financial support to the construction of the temple or any approval for its construction. CM Dhami merely attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of this temple in the capacity of Chief Guest at the invitation of some seers and public representatives from Delhi.

It may also be recalled that, in his clarification issued yesterday, the Chief Minister had directed an inquiry by the BKTC regarding allegations of fund collections by some people who have allegedly formed trusts in the name of Badrinath and Kedarnath. Ajendra Ajay today admitted that he has received complaints that some people have formed trusts or institutions in the name of Kedarnath and Badrinath and that donations are being collected from devotees in the name of construction of Dharamshalas, hospitals, temple, etc. Complaints are also being received about taking money from devotees in the name of conducting online worship at Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham by making an app. Ajay declared that such complaints are being investigated.

He further said that regarding some people using photos or videos of Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham for commercial benefit, the matter would be investigated.  Legal action, if needed, would be taken under due provisions of the law.
