Haldwani, 22 Jan: Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, has honoured Yatindra Pal Singh Suri, an Uttarakhand based alumnus of the class of 1975 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, for his exemplary contributions to the steel industry, corrosion management, alumni engagement, and social development.
Suri now resides in Bhimtal in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
As Co-Chair of the CII Corrosion Management Committee and leading professional in the stainless steel sector, Suri has consistently showcased exceptional problem-solving abilities. His logical approach to engineering solutions has helped him excel across diverse assignments. In his leadership roles, Suri successfully developed export markets in USA, EU and Canada, ensuring responsible trade practices while avoiding anti-dumping duties. He pioneered the introduction of eCommerce in the steel sector, revolutionising the industry with innovative approaches.
Suri promoted new age innovations in stainless steel and sustainable solutions to advance India’s vision of becoming a corrosion–free country. As the National Co-Chairman of the CII Corrosion Management Committee, Suri has played a vital role in implementing the CII National Mission on war against corrosion, a key outcome of the 2014 MOU between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama.
Beyond industry, Suri has made enormous contributions to the social sector, positively impacting rural, urban and academic communities. His leadership in various associations has been recognised through numerous awards and accolades.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to industry, corrosion management, alumni engagement, and social development, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur presented Suri with the Distinguished Alumni Award on the occasion of its 70th Convocation, held on 30 December 2024.
