Roorkee, 16 Oct: A major public discourse was organised at IIT Roorkee today to mark the centenary year of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), where former Sarkaryavah and present All India Executive Member of the organisation, Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi, addressed the gathering as the chief speaker.
In his address, Joshi observed that the world has entrusted India with the responsibility of moral purification. He added that India has always aspired to offer the best to the world, a resolve it should continue to uphold. He stated that the RSS has been advancing this very idea throughout its hundred-year national and social journey and has been reminding the world of the vision of India as described by Swami Vivekananda and Maharshi Aurobindo.
Drawing upon India’s millennia-old civilisational journey, Joshi observed that the nation’s life values have emerged from the experiences of ordinary people. He listed violence, immorality, corruption, and hypocrisy as the gravest problems of modern society and urged the youth to know India, respect India, and build India.
Joshi further observed that every community has played a part in shaping the nation. He recalled how the Bhil community supported Maharana Pratap in his battles against the Mughals. True valour, he said, lies in the protection of what is rare and precious. He asserted that one must not commit injustice, nor allow it to be committed. He emphasised that India’s ethos is one of mutual interdependence, where there is no place for individual arrogance. The younger generation, he said, must be taught the distinctiveness of Indian thought and culture through reason and understanding.
Highlighting the importance of education, Joshi said that a society cannot be sustained merely by rulers. Education, he emphasised, should make humans humane, not mechanical. He called for industrialisation that serves national progress, for artists to convey positive messages to society, for religion to impart constructive wisdom, and for politics to function on a national foundation. He said that India must become a nation of valour, one that protects others.
Joshi observed that for the past hundred years, the RSS has progressed with the cooperation of society and expressed confidence that such support would continue in the future as well. The programme was conducted by Dr Praveen Aaron.
Among those present on the occasion included RSS regional pracharak chief Jagdish, provincial pracharaks Dr Shailendra and Chandrashekhar, along with Rakesh, Anuj, Lalit Shankar, Manoj, Praveen, Jalsingh, Tribhuwan, Jitendra, Ramesh, Satish, Vivek, Banshidhar, Rahul, Naveen, and several other distinguished citizens.
