Dehradun, 1 Jul: Police have arrested an interstate gang involved in multiple house burglaries in the city. The gang leader and two other members were caught by the police and valuable stolen items worth around Rs 8 lakh were recovered from them. Police recovered items include gold and silver jewellery, idols, cash, and other valuables.

The three accused were identified as Swatantra Sharma (23), Amit Kushwaha (19), and Akash Vishwakarma (24) – all belonging to Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, who were living in a rented room in Herbertpur.

These arrests were made in connection with two burglary cases-  one in Herbertpur under Vikasnagar police station and the other in Dharmawala area under Sahaspur police station.

In the first case, a man named Himanshu Negi had gone to his village in Almora. When he returned on 24 June, he found his house broken into and jewellery and cash stolen. He reported the matter to the police.

To investigate the case, police team checked CCTV footage from nearby areas and gathered information about suspicious people. On the night of 30 June, three men were found roaming near Jharuwala Chowk in a suspicious manner and were arrested by the police.

During interrogation, they admitted to committing two burglaries in the area. They said they used to search for closed houses during the day and then commit the thefts at night using tools to break locks. The stolen items were hidden in their rented room.

The police raided their room and recovered all the stolen items. The gang members also revealed that they used to send the stolen goods to Jhansi to sell them and avoid being caught. Police said the gang may have committed thefts in other states as well.

The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Sanoj Kumar along with constables Brijpal, Sanjay Kumar, Anil Salar, and Chaman Chauhan. Two FIRs have been registered against the gang in Vikasnagar and Sahaspur police stations.
