Mussoorie, 30 Jan: On the 78th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Congress workers in Mussoorie not only paid tribute to him but also resolved to internalise his ideas and values, emphasising their relevance in today’s times. At a programme held at the Congress office on Jhulaghar Mall Road, floral tributes were offered to Gandhi’s portrait. Speakers at the event said that Mahatma Gandhi was not just a freedom fighter, but an ideology that showed the path of non-violence and truth not only to India but to the entire world.

Former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola said that Gandhiji waged a difficult struggle for the country’s independence, went to jail many times, but never compromised on his principles. Mass movements like the Dandi March, the Salt Satyagraha, and the Khadi movement united the people and strengthened the foundation of independence. Former Municipal Chairman Manmohan Singh Mall said that today, when animosity and intolerance are increasing in society, Gandhi’s ideas become even more relevant. He raised his voice against untouchability and strived to realise the vision of a secular India.

Women Congress President Jasbir Kaur said that Gandhi also gave women the message of self-reliance and equality. Through Khadi, he presented the idea of a self-reliant India decades ago. After the programme, Congress workers reached Gandhi Chowk and offered floral tributes at the statue of the Father of the Nation. During this time, the atmosphere became imbued with Gandhi’s spirit with slogans like ‘Gandhi Zindabad’ and ‘Non-violence is strength’. Many Congress workers including Tejpal Rauthan, Megh Singh Kandari, Rajiv Agarwal, Mahesh Chand, Gaurav Gupta, Nagendra Uniyal, and Ashad Singh Aswal were present on the occasion.
