National Consumer Day celebrated by Doon Citizens’ Council

Dehradun, 24 Dec: National Consumer Day was celebrated at 1, Inder Road, here, today, under the auspicious of All India Consumers’ Council, Doon Citizens’ Council, Sanyukta Nagrik Sangathan and allied organisations.

The function was presided over by President, AICC, and Sanyukta Nagrik Sangathan, Brig KG Behl (Retd). Dr S Farooq, President, Himalaya Wellness Company, was the Chief Guest and Justice PC Aggarwal, former District Judge, Dehradun, and Chairman Consumer Forum, Dehradun, was the Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote address.

Other guests were Sachin Choudhary, Joint Director, Bureau of Indian Standards, and Devender Pal Singh Monty, President, Dehradun Welfare Society.

The guests were welcomed by GS Jassal with bouquets and shawls.

Brig Behl welcomed the guests and all participants, especially the BIS Joint Director, who explained how National Consumer Day observance began in 2003, and why this is celebrated on 24 December, as the 1986 Consumer Act was approved by the President on that date. He explained who consumers are and how they become consumers only after taking receipts from shopkeepers. He also explained the duties of the consumers and benefits they can draw under the new 2019 Consumer Act.

In his keynote address, Justice PC Aggarwal explained many new aspects introduced in the 2019 Act, which have benefited consumers and what additional benefits could be drawn.

Sachin Choudhary, Joint Director, Bureau of Indian Standards, explained various standards which have been fixed for the benefits of the consumers in different fields.

Monty explained the benefits of the Act to the consumers.

Chief Guest Dr S Farooq, in his poetic way, explained how the consumers can be benefitted with the latest facilities being provided as explained by Justice Aggarwal and thanked organisers for celebrating National Consumers’ Day.

Jitendra Dandona, ex-employee of SBI, explained that, now, the number of nominees in the bank can be increased to four.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr Mukul Sharma, AS Bhatia, Dr Himmat Singh, Ravinder Singh Anand, Jitendra Dandona, Avadhesh Sharma, Dinesh Bhandari and others. GS Jassal proposed the vote of thanks.
