Haridwar, 20 May: The 109th Devi Manifestation Ceremony was celebrated with devotion at the Tara Devi Temple in Kankhal, today. The Goddess was worshipped through ‘Kanya Puja’ on this occasion and Durga Saptashati recited. Bhajans and cultural programmes were presented. On 20 May, 1915, Tara Devi appeared in the form of a girl to the ascetic, Swami Mahanand Giri Maharaj, on the banks of the Ganga in Mahanand Mission, Pahari Bazaar, Kankhal. Since then, the manifestation festival of Tara Devi is celebrated with devotion on 20 May at Mahanand Mission, Kankhal.
Swami Mahanand Giri, the founder of Mahanand Mission, is popularly known as Pitaji Maharaj.
Addressing the function, Swami Ratnagiri Maharaj said that Tara Mata is seated in Vaishnavi form on the banks of Ganga in Mahanand Mission, Kankhal, which is a symbol of Satvik spirituality. Through worship, here, a person attains a virtuous life and attains salvation. He said that Tara Devi has two forms, one is the fiery Tara and the other is the calm Tara.
Prasad was distributed and cultural programmes were organised on this occasion.
