Pithoragarh, 13 Jul: As part of the ongoing Harela Celebration Week, Panchachuli Company of 130 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological Kumaon conducted a special mass plantation drive in the general area of Suwakot, near Wadda, on 13 July.

During the drive, 10,000 saplings were planted in coordination with local villagers, school children, and other community members, demonstrating a strong spirit of collective participation towards environmental conservation. The enthusiastic involvement of the local community, particularly young students, added significant momentum to the Battalion’s afforestation initiative.

With this plantation drive, the Battalion has successfully planted 50,000 saplings under its special Harela Plantation Campaign, over and above its mandated annual target of planting 8 lakh saplings during the financial year 2026–27. The remaining plantation activities under the Harela Week campaign will continue in the coming days.

The Battalion’s sustained efforts are aimed at increasing green cover, conserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem, preventing soil erosion, and promoting ecological balance. These initiatives also seek to foster environmental awareness and encourage active community participation in protecting the region’s rich natural heritage.

Speaking on the occasion, Battalion representatives appreciated the wholehearted support extended by local villagers, school children, and all stakeholders. They reiterated that every sapling planted today is a step towards securing a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for the generations to come.

The Harela Plantation Campaign will culminate on 16 July 2026 with a grand plantation programme, reaffirming the Battalion’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development in the Kumaon Himalayas.
