28 Universities from 11 states congregate at Upes Campus Law Fest ‘Vidhiotsav 2019’ Kick-Starts at UPES

DEHRADUN, 8 Mar: The 1st Edition of the Law Fest ‘Vidhiotsav 2019 – Spring Edition’ got under way with a grand opening at the Kandoli Campus of UPES today. The four-day long fest organized under the aegis of the School of Law (SOL), UPES is being held at the University from 7 to 10 March. The fest aims to provide a platform for exchange of ideas & experiences to students of all Law Schools across India. The event was inaugurated by the ‘Chief Guest’ Dr. S. Farooq, Chairman – Himalaya Drug Company, the internationally renowned pharmaceutical & herbal wellness company.
Briefing on the event, Arun Dhand – Sr. Director, Public Affairs UPES shared that the event has received an overwhelming response from 28 prestigious National Law Universities, Private Universities, Central Universities (Government) and law schools across the country viz. NALSAR Hyderabad; National Law University, Jodhpur; Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala; Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; Dr. Ambedkar Govt. Law College, Chennai Tamil Nadu; DSNLU, Vishakhapatnam; NLU Assam; Bennett University, Greater Noida; Campus Law (DU), New Delhi; Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi; SLS, Pune; Amity Law School, IPU, Delhi; VIPS, Delhi; AMU, Aligarh; Amity Law School, Noida; Baba Farid Law College, Faridkot; Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, New law College, Pune; Ideal Institute of Management & Technology and School of Law, IPU, New Delhi; Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahemdabad; JEMTEC School of Law, Greater Noida, UP; Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida, UP; Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai; University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh; SoL, Christ, Bengaluru, Karnataka; Uttaranchal University, Dehradun; ICFAI, Dehradun and UPES, Dehradun. “Over 300+ students from various Law schools attended the inaugural ceremony of the fest”, Dhand apprised.
Welcoming the ‘Chief Guest’ at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Tabrez Ahmad, Dean – SOL, UPES shared that six exciting events have been planned during the fest viz. 5th UPES National Trial Advocacy Competition; UPES School Of Law National Mediation Competition; QUIZICON IV – National Quiz Competition on Contemporary Legal Issues; National Debate Competition; Law & Literature Event (Turn Coat & Spell Bee) and Cyber Disease: A National level Competition on Ethical Hacking. “The event encourages academic stimulations and harness skills like self-awareness, critical thinking, organizational skills and teamwork amongst the participants” Dr. Tabrez stated while sharing his views on the need of practicing law. He also welcomed all the teams of student participants and wished them good luck for the competitive events.
Inaugurating the Fest, the Chief Guest spoke about the importance of law as a profession. Dr. S Farooq also expressed his views on the Art of Expression, Art of Earning and Art of Living. Amongst the other dignitaries, Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh – Coordinator VIDHIOTSAV 2019; Dr. Mamta Rana, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chopra and other faculty members from SOL graced the inaugural ceremony with their presence.
Delivering his address, Dr. Deependra Jha – Vice Chancellor UPES emphasised upon the importance of outcome-based education in the country. “Outcome-based education holds the future of the world as it clearly specifies what the students are to know, what they are to be able to do, and what level of knowledge or values they should be able to demonstrate after completion of their learning program” he said. Dr. Jha also shared his insights on the importance & roles of e-Commerce & Cyber-hacking in the present scenario with the participants.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh, Coordinator VIDHIOTSAV 2019 briefed the gathering on the events scheduled at the 4-Day long fest while Shambhavi Sinha, Co-Coordinator of the event delivered the ‘Vote of Thanks’ to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries.
