Uttarkashi, 20 Jun: A heartrending incident in the remote Gujjar settlement of Mora Tok, under Odhata revenue village, has claimed the lives of a young family of four. The calamity occurred in the early this morning at around 2 a.m., when the mud wall of a kuccha house crumbled suddenly, burying the entire family beneath its debris. The house belonged to Ghulam Hussain, aged 26, son of Ali Ahmed, and the accident proved fatal for him, his 23 year old wife Rukma Khatoon, their three year old son Abid, and ten month old daughter Salma. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the tragedy.
The collapse reduced the modest dwelling to rubble in an instant, leaving the victims no chance to escape. Nearby villagers, startled by the noise, rushed to the site and immediately alerted the authorities. Responding swiftly, Tehsildar Mori Jabbar Singh Aswal, revenue sub-inspectors, police personnel, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the location to commence rescue efforts. However, despite their prompt action, the sheer weight and volume of the debris rendered recovery impossible, and all four members were found dead.
Tehsildar Aswal later confirmed that the rescue teams faced extreme difficulty due to the heavy debris. Preliminary observations indicate that persistent rainfall and the fragile structure of the kuccha house may have contributed to the collapse. A detailed inquiry has been initiated by the administration to ascertain the precise cause of the incident.
The entire village has been plunged into mourning, with villagers in shock over the sudden and tragic loss.
CM Dhami expressed deep anguish over the tragedy through a social media post, stating he was profoundly saddened by the loss of four lives due to the wall collapse in Odhata village. He offered prayers for the peace of the departed souls and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, wishing them strength to endure this irreparable loss.
