Rishikesh, 9 Nov: The fifth session under the aegis of Cardio-Diabetic Society began at AIIMS Rishikesh on Friday. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, the institute’s Executive Director, Professor (Dr) Meenu Singh, and other guests by jointly lighting the lamp. On this occasion, the chief guest explained the relationship between diabetes and heart disease and emphasised the need for the medical super-speciality to come together and provide treatment on a comprehensive level on the common health problems related to this subject.
At the convention, Executive Director Professor Dr Meenu Singh also appreciated the efforts of the Cardio-Diabetic Society for taking forward such useful works for social health.
Guest of Honour, Dean Academic of the institute, Professor (Dr) Jaya Chaturvedi congratulated the organising chairman of the program and Head of Medicine Department of AIIMS, Professor (Dr) Ravikant and his team for organising the annual convention of Cardio-Diabetic Society every year.
On this occasion, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Hospital, Professor (Dr) Sanjeev Kumar Mittal explained the importance of eye examination in diabetes and identifying complications in the eyes due to diabetes, and also appealed to the common citizens who are suffering from diabetes to get their eyes tested from time to time.
Chairman of the organising committee, Professor (Dr) Ravi Kant emphasised the importance of timely identification of heart disease by diabetic patients and motivated such patients to keep getting health checkups done on time.
Co-organising Chairperson, Dr Venkatesh Pai gave updates on arthritis and its initial symptoms, precautions, treatment and preventive measures.
Organising Secretary Dr Mukesh Bairwa thanked the medical faculty from all over the country who had come to participate in the convention and appreciated their contribution for organising the event.
On the first day of the annual conference, a series of lectures was presented on intensive care diseases, in which keynote speakers Dr D Himanshu Reddy (KGMU Lucknow), Dr Jyoti Prakash (AIIMS Patna), Dr K Balamurugesan (JIPMER Pondicherry), etc., played a major role.
Under the chairmanship of Dr Venkatesh Pai, experts discussed arthritis and its complications and diagnosis, in which the keynote speakers were Dr Ramesh Agarwal from (LHMC Delhi), Dr Ankit Jain from Meerut, Dr Vikas Agarwal from (SGPGI Lucknow), Dr Subramanyam Vyas from (AIIMS Delhi). While Dr Rohit Raina from AIIMS Bathinda, Dr Arnab from AFMS Chandigarh, Dr Jithesh from Bangalore, Dr Anirudh Mukherjee from AIIMS Raebareli discussed the subject of diabetic and intensive care.
