Tehri, 1 Mar: The upcoming Tehri Lake Festival, scheduled from 6 to 9 March, is set to become an excellent example of coordination between the government, administration, and public participation. To promote tourism in Tehri district, both the administration and local stakeholders have come together to offer special benefits to participants.
The festival, titled Himalayan O2 – Tehri Lake Festival, is being jointly organised by the Tehri District Administration and the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board at various locations across the district. Participants from across the country are expected to attend.
A key highlight of the event is the special discounts being offered: 20% discount on hotel and homestay accommodations for registered participants and up to 25% discount on water sports activities.
Chief Development Officer Varuna Agrawal stated that local hotel owners, homestay operators, and private water sports stakeholders have voluntarily decided to offer these concessions to promote tourism.
During the festival, participants will also experience the rich culture and cuisine of Uttarakhand. A Master Chef competition featuring traditional local dishes will be organized. A fashion show will showcase participants dressed in traditional attire and jewellery.
One of the biggest attractions will be a performance by the Pandavaas band on March 6 at Koti Colony, along with a theatrical presentation based on the life of Veer Bhadra Madhosingh Bhandari. Local artists will also perform on various dates throughout the festival.
Tehri Lake Festival is the district’s largest outdoor festival. It includes activities such as trekking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and rafting across different regions of the district. The initiative aims to introduce tourists to the vast tourism potential of Tehri, especially in remote areas, thereby promoting rural tourism with strong local community support.
District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal expressed hope that organising trekking expeditions in remote areas will significantly boost rural tourism in the region.
