NEW DELHI, 27 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called on Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri at Kartavya Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday. During the meeting, he held detailed discussions on several important issues concerning Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions and disaster-prone sensitivity. The CM urged the Union Minister that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders be maintained at 100 per cent as before to ensure the uninterrupted, safe and smooth conduct of the Char Dham Yatra. He reminded that during the pilgrimage, which runs from April to November, lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad arrive in the state, leading to a significant rise in the demand for commercial LPG. Dhami also shared that during this period, the state requires nearly 9,67,949 commercial LPG cylinders.
The CM pointed out that between June and September, the monsoon season brings recurring natural disasters to the state. Given the mountainous terrain and difficult conditions, LPG plays a crucial role in disaster management and relief operations. In this context, he requested an additional allocation of 5 per cent, amounting to approximately 48,397 cylinders, to ensure effective and timely implementation of relief and rescue measures.
Dhami emphasised that Uttarakhand’s economy is primarily tourism-based, with religious, pilgrimage and adventure tourism making significant contributions. The Char Dham Yatra remains a central pillar of the state’s faith, cultural identity and economic activity.
According to the officials, the Union Minister responded positively to the proposals presented by the CM and assured him of necessary action, reiterating the Centre’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of Uttarakhand.
