DEHRADUN, 3 May: A programme was organised on Saturday at the Lok Bhawan auditorium here to mark the occasion of Gujarat and Maharashtra State Foundation Days (May 1). Members of the Gujarat Samaj Samiti, Haridwar Gujju Parivar, Maharashtra Samaj Samiti, and other participants attended the event.

On this occasion, artists from both states presented captivating cultural performances. Through various presentations, the audience witnessed a vibrant glimpse of the rich folk culture of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The performances were appreciated by the Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), along with others present.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor praised the cultural showcases and said that the event was a living example of the diversity and rich traditions of Indian culture. He noted that the performances reflected devotion, dedication, and emotional connect, making them truly special.

The Governor stated that India’s civilisation, culture, folk songs, and folk music are invaluable heritage, and preserving them is the responsibility of all. Emphasising the role of families, he said that when children, youth, and elders come together on one platform to celebrate culture, it generates a positive energy in society.

Referring to India’s tradition of “Unity in Diversity”, he said that the country’s diverse languages, attire, cuisine, and cultural traditions are its greatest strengths. Reiterating the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”, he emphasised that unity, coordination, and a “Nation First” spirit are essential for the country’s progress. He also highlighted the importance of cultural heritage and festivals, stating that staying connected to one’s roots and traditions defines our true identity.

The Governor remarked that such events play an important role in strengthening national unity, cultural harmony, and social cohesion.

On this occasion, First Lady Gurmeet Kaur, Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman, Additional Secretary Rina Joshi, Special Secretary Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Additional Secretary Dr Vijay Kumar Jogdande, IG Anant Shankar Takwale, along with Anand Modha, Rajesh Pathak, Hari Bhatt, and Mahendra Bhatt from Gujarat Samaj Samiti were prominently present. The programme was conducted by Financial Controller Tripti Srivastava.
