Value-based Education is foundation for Viksit Bharat @2047: Prof Surekha Dangwal

Dehradun, 18 May: A Faculty Development Program (FDP) on the theme “Capacity Building” was organised at Doon University under the joint aegis of the Abhyuday Bharat Forum and its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The program witnessed participation from academicians, researchers, professors, and education experts from various institutions of higher education, who deliberated on the role of teachers in nation-building and student development.

The program commenced with a ceremonial conch blowing by Dr DK Gupta’s team, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Vice-Chancellor of Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal, and Dr Shailendra. The event was conducted by Dr Ankit Nagar.

Delivering the presidential address on “Role of Teachers in Nation Building”, Prof Surekha Dangwal stated that the responsibilities of teachers are continuously increasing in the present education system. She emphasised that the dream of Viksit Bharat @2047 can only be realised through value-based education. Prof Dangwal urged teachers not only to provide intellectual guidance to students but also to inspire them toward social responsibility. She further highlighted the need to promote Indian Knowledge System-based contents in teaching practices.

Speaking on the concept and objectives of the Abhyuday Rising Bharat Forum, Dr Bhalchandra Shingan emphasised the importance of student-centric academic development and a collaborative educational environment.

The Chief Guest at the program, renowned social thinker Dr Shailendra, shared his views on “Role of Academia in Building National Discourse”. He stated that educational institutions play a crucial role in strengthening national consciousness and cultural perspectives among youth. He emphasised that teachers’ dedication is vital for students’ personality development and character building. Referring to India’s rich and vast Guru-Shishya tradition, Dr Shailendra remarked that teachers have a significant role in nation-building.

Expressing the importance of capacity building and mentorship in shaping the personality of students, Prof HC Purohit of Doon University stressed the need to promote academic leadership, research culture, and positive dialogue ecosystem among youth.

During the technical session, Prof SS Suthar provided detailed insights into strategies for publication in Q1 and Q2 journals, research ethics, and research visibility. He also suggested including subjects such as Vedic Mathematics, Indian Chemistry, and Indian Architecture under the framework of Indian Knowledge Tradition in the curriculum.

A panel discussion was also organised on “Inclusion of Indian Perspective in Education: Role of Teachers in Student Development”. Very useful delibrations were shared by the panellists including Prof RP Mamgain, Dr Abhay Kumar, Dr Dhruv Kumar, Prof Shyam Pandey, Prof KK Verma, and Dr Ashutosh Kumar, who shared their views on various aspects related to research, education, and the holistic development of students. The session was moderated by Dr Tribhuvan Khali.

Addressing the valedictory session, Dhananjay emphasised the need for future collaboration and networking to strengthen academic leadership. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr DK Gupta.
