Dehradun, 4 Jun: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State General Secretary Deepti Rawat Bhardwaj strongly reacted to the cancellation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Pauri and Almora, stating that citing bad weather as the reason was merely an excuse. She alleged that the Congress leadership was attempting to avoid facing questions from the public and ex-servicemen.

Deepti Rawat Bhardwaj said that at the time the cancellation was announced, weather conditions in Pauri were normal, with clear skies and bright sunshine. Therefore, attributing the cancellation to adverse weather was an unsuccessful attempt to mislead the public.

She further stated that the Congress leadership had realised that ex-servicemen were prepared to directly question Rahul Gandhi on issues related to the Agniveer Scheme, national security, and the armed forces. According to her, soldiers and veterans in Uttarakhand also wanted to know why the Congress leadership had repeatedly questioned the Indian Armed Forces’ achievements, including surgical strikes and matters concerning national security.

The BJP leader said that the country has not forgotten the controversial remarks made by Congress leaders regarding the armed forces and military leadership. She alleged that Rahul Gandhi had also made disrespectful comments about India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, the late General Bipin Rawat, which had hurt the sentiments of the military community. She said the people of Uttarakhand were expecting clear answers from Rahul Gandhi on these issues.

Deepti Rawat Bhardwaj further claimed that there was widespread public dissatisfaction with what she described as Congress’s negative politics. She alleged that the visit was cancelled to avoid possible protests and public outrage. According to her, when the time came to face questions from soldiers and veterans, the Congress leadership chose to step back, demonstrating that its politics was limited to rhetoric.

She emphasised that Uttarakhand is the land of brave soldiers, martyrs, and veterans. The people of the state, she said, place national interest above all else and would never accept those who undermine the morale of the armed forces for political gain.

The BJP State General Secretary concluded by stating that the politically aware people of Uttarakhand fully understand the Congress party’s approach and will deliver an appropriate response in the times ahead.
