Roorkee, 19 Jun: The Vigilance Department has arrested a PRD employee, Sandeep Kumar, posted at the Tehsildar’s office in Roorkee, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500 in connection with land mutation work. The arrest followed a complaint lodged on the vigilance toll-free helpline number 1064, where the complainant alleged that Sandeep, who was functioning as a clerk in the Tehsildar’s office, had sought money to register the mutation of his sister’s land.

On preliminary inquiry, the allegations were found to be prima facie correct, leading to the registration of a case at Vigilance Sector Police Station, Dehradun. Acting under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Sector, Dehradun, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and apprehended Sandeep Kumar, son of Birbal, resident of Thithola, under Mangalore police station in Haridwar district today while he was posted at the Tehsildar’s office in Roorkee.

The vigilance officials shared that after receiving the bribe amount, Sandeep attempted to hand it over to an unidentified person in order to destroy evidence. However, vigilance officers arrested him from the office premises and initiated further legal proceedings.

The Vigilance Department has confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody and that forensic and legal processes are underway to ensure accountability.
