Govindghat, 12 Jul: On behalf of the lakhs of devotees (Sangat) who undertake the sacred annual pilgrimage to Shri Hemkunt Sahib every year, the Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust has extended its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for once again mentioning the Hemkund Sahib Ropeway Project during his address to the Indian diaspora in Auckland, New Zealand today.
In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted this important initiative, which will significantly ease the arduous trek for pilgrims, especially the elderly, women, children, and those with special needs, while also promoting tourism in the pristine Himalayan region. This continued recognition by the Prime Minister reaffirms his deep commitment to the welfare of the Sikh community and the facilitation of seamless access to one of the holiest Gurudwaras associated with Sri Guru Gobind Singh, it was stated.
The Trust has welcomed this gesture and reiterated its appeal to the Government of India and the Government of Uttarakhand to expedite the commencement of work on this prestigious ropeway project at the earliest. The timely completion of the approximately 12.4 km ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkunt Sahib will bring immense relief and convenience to the surging number of devotees—nearly three lakh annually—enabling them to experience the divine blessings of the sacred site with greater ease and safety.
“We are deeply grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and unwavering support towards Sikh heritage and pilgrim welfare. This ropeway is not just an infrastructure project but a true act of Sewa that will benefit generations of Sangat. We humbly request that all necessary steps be taken to start the work at the earliest so that devotees may avail its benefits without further delay,” said Narinder Jit Singh Bindra, Chairman, Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust.
The Trust remains committed to coordinating with all concerned authorities for the smooth implementation of this project, ensuring that the sanctity of the pilgrimage is preserved while enhancing accessibility.
