Dehradun, 28 Jul: Uttarakhand Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satpal Maharaj has taken cognisance of the partial subsidence of the approach road to the newly constructed bridge over the Tons River near Prem Nagar (Nanda Ki Chowki) on the old Dehradun–Paonta Sahib highway following heavy rainfall. He has directed departmental officials to undertake immediate restoration work.

Providing details, the Minister said that the bridge and its structural framework are completely safe. He explained that water seeped through the soil filling carried out near the retaining wall on the approach side, causing it to flow beneath the approach road. This led to the formation of a cavity, which is now being filled on a priority basis.

Satpal Maharaj further stated that he has instructed the PWD Secretary and the Chief Engineer to ensure that the damaged approach road is repaired at the earliest and reopened for traffic. He reiterated that the bridge’s main structural design remains completely secure and that the issue is confined to the approach road.

Bulldozers and Public Works Department (PWD) teams are currently at the site carrying out restoration work by filling the cavity and stabilising the approach road. The bridge is expected to be reopened for vehicular traffic soon.
