Mussoorie, 30 Jul: A wave of shock swept through the Hussain Ganj area of Mussoorie on Thursday after a married woman committed suicide by hanging herself. Upon receiving the information, the Mussoorie police, administrative officials, and a forensic team arrived at the scene to gather evidence. Preliminary reports suggest an altercation had occurred between the couple, prompting the woman to take this drastic step. However, the police have not yet reached a definitive conclusion, and the matter is being investigated from all angles.
The deceased was originally from Bengal but had been raised in Dehradun; she had entered into a love marriage with Pawan Aswal, a Mussoorie resident serving in the Home Guards. The couple has two young daughters—one reportedly around two-and-a-half years old and the other just eight months old. A pall of gloom has descended on the area following the incident.
Naib Tehsildar Upendra Singh Rana stated that the woman had been married for less than seven years. In such cases, regulations mandate a magisterial inquiry and a post-mortem examination conducted by a medical panel. Accordingly, the body has been sent to Coronation Hospital in Dehradun for the autopsy. He added that the deceased’s parents are traveling from Bengal to Dehradun; the post-mortem will be conducted after their arrival and the completion of necessary formalities. Meanwhile, a forensic team has examined the scene and meticulously collected evidence.
Mussoorie Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Chauhan stated that the cause of the incident has not yet been officially confirmed. While there are reports of a dispute between the couple, this can only be verified after the investigation. The police, forensic team, and administration are jointly investigating the matter. A clear picture regarding the cause of death will emerge only after the investigation report and the post-mortem results are available.
