Mussoorie, 27 Oct: Condolences were expressed in Mussoorie following the passing of Comrade Girdhar Pandit, State Co-Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), who remained active on public interest issues—ranging from workers’ rights to the movement for the state of Uttarakhand. During a meeting of the CPI’s Mussoorie branch, members observed a two-minute silence to honour his legacy, reflecting on his struggles, literary contributions, and his tireless efforts to secure the rights of the marginalized and oppressed sections of society.

Speaking at the condolence meeting held at the CPI office, District Secretary Comrade RP Badoni noted that Girdhar Pandit dedicated his life to fighting for the interests of the people of Uttarakhand and the working class. He played an active role in the Uttarakhand statehood movement across various districts—including Devprayag, Tehri, Dehradun, Uttarkashi, and Pauri—and led numerous mass movements. Mussoorie Branch Secretary Comrade Aslam Khan remarked that Girdhar Pandit consistently championed the causes of the public, labourers, and the underprivileged. Beyond providing new direction to the party, he played a pivotal role in struggles centred on social concerns.

Former CPI branch secretary Devi Godiyal recalled that Girdhar Pandit was not only a dedicated party worker but also a respected teacher and writer. His active involvement in advocating for labour rights and the Uttarakhand statehood movement will be remembered for a long time to come. Speakers at the meeting emphasized that the significance of mass movements is defined not merely by their outcomes, but by the struggles of individuals who give voice to the concerns of the common people—a principle that truly embodied the life and work of Girdhar Pandit.

District Secretary RP Badoni, Branch Secretary Aslam Khan, Devi Godiyal, Rajesh Sharma, Puran Negi, Dinesh Uniyal, Sunil Uniyal, Anwar Khan, and Fahim, along with other party workers, were present on this occasion.
