Dehradun, 29 Aug: National Sports Day is celebrated on 29 August, each year, to celebrate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of the greatest hockey players in history. Known as the “Wizard of Hockey”, Dhyan Chand led the Indian hockey team to three Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932, and 1936, earning worldwide recognition for his exceptional skill and sportsmanship. The day serves as a reminder of his contributions to Indian sports and aims to promote physical activity, health, and sports culture across the nation. Various sporting events, awards, and activities are organised to commemorate this occasion and inspire future generations.
On the occasion of National Sports Day, Colonel Brown School hosted an exciting Inter-School Quiz Competition, bringing together the brightest
minds from five prominent schools in the region. The event was designed to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and knowledge, and it featured an array of challenging rounds that tested the participants’ awareness and understanding of sports.
The schools that participated were St Xavier’s School, Fylfot School, Brooklyn School, SGRR Public School and St Jude’s School.
The Quiz comprised six interesting rounds in which the children’s intellectual skills were tested with current questions on the Olympics, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Hockey, Gymnastics and on various Awards. The most interesting round was the audio-visual one featuring speeches by renowned sports personalities. Students had to identify the speaker, combining knowledge of sports figures with a keen ear for recognition.
After an intense and engaging competition, St Jude’s School emerged as the Champion, scoring an impressive 335 points. Fylfot School secured the Runners-Up position with 105 points. The remaining teams also performed admirably.
