Historic welcome accorded to IAF car rally in Gauhati University

Guwahati, 24 Oct: In an unprecedented gala function, Gauhati University faculty and students accorded a warm welcome to the IAF and Army officers participating in Vayu Veer Vijeta Car Rally today. 32 Air warriors and Army officers, who came driving Jimnys from Siachen (Thoise air base) to Guwahati on way to final destination Tawang were welcomed by VC of GU, Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta with Air Commodore SS Prabhune (AOC Guwahati IAF station) and Tarun Vijay, Chairman UWM.

More than a thousand students from various PG level streams gathered in jam jacked PD Hall where all IAF Warriors were felicitated amidst Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki  Jai.

Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, in his scholarly speech said that he is sure this historic rally will create a dream amongst youth to join IAF and other armed forces. He cited great saint Srimanta Sankar Deva and said that Bharat word appears in his 15 th Century literature more than 51 times. Devotion and Bharat Bhakti is ingrained deeply in the

Assamese psyche and heritage. He said youth must understand that a soldier warrior’s life is most meaningful.

Air Commodore SS Prabhune exhorted students to choose IAF as their career for a purposeful and meaningful life.

Guest faculty and a learned scholar Gargi Mahanta (spouse of GU VC Prof Mahanta) welcomed Air Warriors specially women army and IAF officers for their commitment and courage and said they are an icon of inspiration for all.

There was an interesting interaction with students, and largely it were girl students who asked questions on how to join Armed forces.

Rally commander Wg Commander Vijay Prakash Bhatt, Gr Captain RC Tripathi, Lt Col Ashwini Pawar, Lt Col Swati Lt Col Geetanjali answered students’ queries.

The dynamic director of Students Welfare Prof Ranjan Kakoti was honoured by IAF rally commander Wg Commandar Bhatt and and ideator, former MP Tarun Vijay. He thanked the guests and hoped many of the students would join the armed forces.

PG Students Union President, Manash Pratim Kalita, became first student leader in GU to have ever welcomed Armed Forces Warriors in campus and he was also recognised and honoured by Tarun Vijay, Chairman UWM in the programme on behalf of the rally.

The rally is scheduled to reach Tejpur tomorrow where it will be accorded welcome in TejPur University. Raksha mantri Rajnath Singh is scheduled to flag in IAF rally in Tawang on 30th Oct in the presence of CM  Pema Khandu and Dy CM Chowna Mein.
