DEHRADUN, 5 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the book, ‘A History of Hinduism’, written by Major General GD Bakshi (Retd) at The Tons Bridge School, here, on Tuesday.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister paid his respect to those who lost their lives in the Almora bus accident and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He said that Maj Gen Bakshi’s book would undoubtedly prove beneficial for readers. He described Bakshi as not only a military officer but also a great nationalist, a scholar, and a thinker with deep knowledge in various fields. Along with his expertise in strategic affairs, he has earned numerous distinctions in the military.
Dhami remarked that A History of Hinduism is an excellent attempt to present history, civilisation, and cultural heritage from a new perspective. The book extensively covers the cultural traditions, expression of the soul, and the heritage of Hinduism. It explains how India’s civilisation has contributed to the world through knowledge, science, philosophy, and modernity. The book also highlights the traditions of military strategy, Vedic philosophy, and yoga, thereby introducing these to the younger generation. He emphasised that Sanatan culture is the oldest in the world and that many aspects of Hindu religion make it unique and supreme.
The Chief Minister added that the rishis and munis authored great scriptures that remain relevant due to their depth, comprehensiveness, and scientific approach. The book also mentions the revival of India’s military strength and addresses the anti-national forces that sought to divide society post-independence. He stated that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India today has a strong government, which has taken several historic decisions, raising the nation’s respect and stature globally. Today, the world waits for India’s stance on major issues, he added.
Dhami further stated that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the country is working to preserve its religious and cultural heritage. He cited the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as one such achievement, along with the abolition of triple talaq, surgical strikes on enemy nations, the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, and the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He also mentioned that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill has been passed in Uttarakhand and will soon be implemented. Additionally, the state cabinet has recently decided to establish a Hindu Studies Centre at Doon University.
The Chief Minister urged the youth to stay away from drugs and contribute to making Uttarakhand a drug-free state. He emphasised the need to raise awareness among others on this issue.
On this occasion, Major General Bakshi, the Chairman of The Tons Bridge School, Vijay Nagar, his son, Director Poras Nagar and other distinguished guests were also present.
