Theatre promotes message of overcoming addiction & embracing life

Dehradun, 5 Nov: The Uttarakhand Uday National Theatre Festival, “Jashn-e-Virasat”, was launched at a vibrant ceremony on Tuesday at Pestle Weed College here, today. It is being organised by the Vardan Foundation and Tasveer Art Group to mark the state’s formation day.
On the first day, performances by Abhivyakti Kala Manch from Punjab and Navotsav Rangmanch from Gujarat conveyed a powerful message of a drug-free Uttarakhand.
The festival was inaugurated by Dr Prem Kashyap, Chairman of Pestle Weed College of Information Technology, Dr Anita Verma, Principal, Dr Sunil Agarwal, Patron of Vardan Foundation, Rajendra Prasad Sati, Dr Rakesh Bhatt, Secretary of Vardan Foundation Anil Chandla, and Anil Marwah, Convener of the Food Industries Association of Uttarakhand.
The performance by Abhivyakti Kala Manch from Punjab featured a street play that urged youth to stay away from drugs and called for awareness on the issue. In the evening, Navotsav Rangmanch from Gujarat conducted an awareness rally about drug addiction in Paltan Bazaar, followed by a street play, emphasising how today’s youth are losing their dreams to addiction and stressing the responsibility of young people to think seriously about their future.
Members of the Dehradun Valley Metropolitan Industry and Trade Association, including President Pankaj Mason, General Secretary Pankaj Zidan, Patron Sushil Agarwal, and others, were also present at the event. The festival will continue with plays at the Doon Defence Academy and Doon International School Riverside Campus.
