Fatehabad, 24 Nov: In a rare honour, Tarun Vijay, former BJP MP, was given the ‘Baba Banda Singh Bahadur National Award’ for his services to the cause of the great Sikh warrior who freed Punjab from the Moghuls.
The prestigious award was given by the tenth descendant of Baba Banda Singh, Sardar Jatinderpal Singh Sodhi in a grand Sikh congregation, here, today.
The award carries a Siropa, silver plaque and Rs 51,000 in cash.

Tarun Vijay was praised for his literary services, a book on Baba Banda Singh’s courage and sacrifice, and help in building the first ever Banda Singh Ghat on River Chenab in Reasi, Jammu Kashmir (Baba Banda Singh’s pilgrimage and Tapasya site), as well as the access road to Baba Banda Singh Dera, and also highlighting Baba Banda Singh’s martyrdom site in Delhi, who had remained hitherto obscure.
Tarun Vijay is the first Uttarakhandi to receive such a prestigious Sikh award.
