LCDMUN 6.0 at Law College witnesses over 300 young ‘parliamentarians’ from across country

Dehradun 29 Nov: Law College Dehradun of Uttaranchal University today witnessed the presence of more than 300 young ‘parliamentarians’ from across the country. The occasion was the sixth two-day Youth Parliament and Modern United Nations Conference 2024 of the college.

Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir was the Chief Guest on this occasion and University President Jitendra Joshi was the chairman of the inaugural ceremony.

Pro Vice Chancellor & Dean of the college, Prof Rajesh Bahuguna stated that a total of five committees including the Lok Sabha, All India Political Parties and United Nations General Assembly were formed. Issues like Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, Creamy Layer and Caste Census at the national level and cyber security and global drug trafficking at the international level have been kept in the agenda.

In his address, MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir, speaking on local, national and international issues, stated that a good MP should respect all three and keep national interest paramount. He said that Law College Dehradun has set an example by organising a national level youth parliament while following all parliamentary traditions. He said that education should not be limited to bookish knowledge but also be visible in practice. He expressed special satisfaction over the greater participation of women in the youth parliament.

University Vice Chancellor Prof Dharam Buddhi said that the biggest challenge of the world is sustainable development. Taking forward the views put forward by the representatives of various nations in the United Nations Committee, he emphasised policy formulation on sustainable energy and Cyber Crimes.

In his presidential address, Jitendra Joshi said that the youth have a lot of energy and it needs to be channelised in a positive direction. He described the debate on national and international issues raised in the Youth Parliament as a meaningful and constructive step.

The Principal of the college, Dr Poonam Rawat, proposed the vote of thanks. The program was conducted by the Chairperson of the Youth Parliament Society of the college, Dr Bhavana Arora.
