The city’s green cover has significantly diminished, and vested interests have exploited its status as the capital of Uttarakhand for lucrative real estate investments, often bypassing norms and regulations.
As the city prepares to elect new municipal corporators and a mayor, it is crucial for the citizens of Dehradun to seize this opportunity to bring about positive change. It is time to move beyond personal alliances and support candidates who are genuinely committed to restoring the city’s lost glory. These candidates must present a clear and dedicated agenda for the next five years, focusing on: Aesthetics and greenery; Congestion mitigation and traffic management; Civic facilities and waste management; Air pollution control and river conservation.
The city belongs to its residents, and its development should reflect their aspirations and involve their active participation. By electing leaders who prioritise these values, the citizens of Dehradun can work together to save their city for future generations. This election is a chance to reclaim the city’s beauty and ensure a sustainable and liveable environment for all.
