Dehradun, 15 Jan: Congress has targeted the BJP’s manifesto for the civic polls in Uttarakhand that was released today. Congress spokesperson Garima Dasauni claimed that BJP is under tremendous pressure to save its skin in the municipal elections. She asserted that this is the first time the BJP has been forced by circumstances to release a manifesto in civic elections. She alleged that the manifesto presented by the BJP lacks any announcements related to civic bodies.

Garima Dasauni alleged that the Sankalp Patra of the BJP raises issues like spit jihad and land jihad, which have no relevance to the common people as far as municipal elections and the civic development are concerned.

Dasauni asserted that the civic bodies play a crucial role in improving the lives of ordinary citizens and accused the BJP of adopting the policy of all sorts of compromises due to its weakened position in the civic elections. She further criticised the condition of all municipal corporations under BJP rule. She alleged that Dehradun Municipal Corporation is the only area included under the Smart City initiative and, here, despite crores of rupees having been sent from the Centre for Smart City development and already spent, the general public has not benefited from any of the facilities.

The Congress spokesperson also alleged that crimes against women are occurring in broad daylight, murders are taking place, but the city continues to lack sufficient CCTV cameras. She added that the condition of streetlights is poor, roads are constantly dug up, and there is no proper arrangement for dengue prevention. There is no focus on green plantation, and the entire city is being turned into a concrete jungle.

Congress also attacked the BJP on the issue of drug addiction, stating that the BJP has been ruling the Municipal Corporation for the last 15 years, but conditions have worsened during this period. People are now demanding the return of the old Dehradun. She claimed that the BJP’s Sankalp Patra or Vision Document has nothing to do with the general public.
