Uttarkashi, 15 Jan: Road accidents in Uttarakhand show no signs of abating. In the latest incident, a bus of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC), travelling from Jakhol in the Mori block of district Uttarkashi to Dehradun, met with an accident near Sunkundi village. The accident resulted in injuries to 14 passengers, with six of them reported to be in critical condition.
The injured were taken to the Primary Health Centre in Mori for treatment.
This morning, a bus bearing registration number UK 7 PA 4177 of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation plunged off the road near Sunkundi village and rolled downhill, causing panic and commotion among the passengers. An SDRF team, led by Sub Inspector Pushkar Jina, promptly arrived at the scene with necessary rescue equipment soon after receiving information. The injured passengers were rescued from the bus by SDRF and police personnel. About 30 passengers were reported to be aboard the bus at the time of the accident.
With the help of 108 ambulance, the injured were transported to the Primary Health Centre in Mori for treatment. Upon receiving information about the incident, an ambulance was dispatched from Mori to the accident site. District Magistrate Dr Meherban Singh Bisht, after being briefed on the incident by local officials, directed the acceleration of relief and rescue efforts and ensured proper treatment for the injured.
It may be recalled that just a few days ago, a bus had met with an accident in Pauri and it also fell into a gorge after the bus driver lost control. This bus was travelling from Pauri to Srinagar Garhwal with 28 passengers on board. The accident had resulted in six fatalities and 21 injuries.
