Saurabh Thapliyal assumes charge as Mayor, lists better traffic management as priority

Dehradun, 11 Feb: Newly elected Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal has officially assumed office in Dehradun, promising to fulfil all commitments made in the Sankalp Patra (BJP’s Election Manifesto).

Speaking informally with the media persons after assuming charge, Thapliyal emphasised on proper urban development and problem resolution and also better traffic management. He also outlined key initiatives aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure and public welfare.

Thapliyal announced plans to beautify parks under the ‘Green Doon’ initiative and install a significant number of CCTV cameras to enhance public and women’s safety. Addressing the persistent drainage issues, the Mayor stated that discussions with officials would be held to find effective solutions to the problem. He also highlighted the urgent need to tackle waterlogging, sharing that 73 problem areas have been identified, with work set to begin soon.

Thapliyal also claimed that a cycling track through the city is also on the agenda to promote eco-friendly transportation in the city. Additionally, public grievance camps will be organised to directly address regional issues. He added that efforts are underway to identify suitable parking spaces to alleviate the city’s parking crisis. To ease traffic congestion, discussions with traffic police officials will be held to implement effective solutions.

Thapliyal also reaffirmed his commitment to citywide safety by ensuring the installation of CCTV cameras in parks and public places, creating a secure environment for residents. Regarding the ongoing waste disposal issue in Sheeshambada, he assured a thorough inspection and discussions with local representatives, including the MLA, to expedite the resolution process.

The mayor stressed upon his dedication and commitment to enhancing Dehradun’s image and improving the functioning of the Municipal Corporation, claiming that public feedback will be sought to ensure better governance and city management.
