Dehradun, 21 Feb: The BJP today dismissed the Congress’s protest in the assembly over holding the session in Gairsain and other issues as mere theatrics, accusing the opposition party of avoiding real issues of actual public concern.

In a statement issued today, State BJP media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan criticised the Congress, stating that while the party demands an extension of the House session ostensibly to discuss important issues, it simultaneously engages in “new drama” for cheap popularity. He alleged that instead of addressing matters of public interest, Congress MLAs are walking out of the House and focusing solely on the Gairsain issue.

Chauhan further claimed that Congress MLAs are disconnected from the real concerns of their constituencies and have entered the House without proper homework and preparation. He asserted that before deciding to hold the session in Dehradun, the Speaker had clarified that the Gairsain Vidhan Sabha is not yet fully digitalised while the Dehradun based assembly hall had become fully digitalised.  Additionally, she had mentioned that the acoustics in the Gairsain building cause excessive echo, and work to enhance the facility is in its final stages. Chauhan reminded that Gairsain is being developed with the same modern amenities as Dehradun and accused Congress of manufacturing an issue where none exists.

The BJP leader also recalled instances from past sessions in Gairsain when Congress MLAs themselves had written to the Chief Minister requesting that the winter session be held in Dehradun. Chauhan reiterated that the BJP made Gairsain the summer capital to promote the development of the hilly region, underscoring the party’s clear intentions on the matter.

He concluded by stating that Congress MLAs should have focused on key public issues such as roads, healthcare, and education in their constituencies rather than staging protests. He warned that the public would not forgive Congress for this “drama.”
