Defence Minister awards medals

New Delhi, 25 Feb: In a grand ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, here, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conferred gallantry, distinguished service, and meritorious service medals to personnel of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), today.

The prestigious event, marking the 18th Indian Coast Guard Investiture Ceremony, was attended by the Minister of State, Defence, Sanjay Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Director General, Indian Coast Guard, Paramesh Sivamani, along with senior government officials, senior officers of the ICG, and the families of the awardees.

The President’s Tatrakshak Medals (PTM) and Tatrakshak Medals (TM) were presented to ICG personnel in recognition of their exemplary service, acts of valour, and selfless dedication to duty, often in challenging and extreme conditions.

Prior to the ceremony, the Defence Minister inspected the Ceremonial Guard, reflecting the solemnity and importance of the occasion.

A total of 32 awards were presented, comprising 6 PTMs for Distinguished Service, 11 TMs for Gallantry and 15 TMs for Meritorious Service. These awards serve as a testament to the unwavering courage, valour, and commitment of the ICG personnel, whose contributions have been crucial to the safety and security of India’s vast maritime frontiers.

The conferment of these prestigious medals not only recognises the individual heroism of the awardees but also serves as a morale booster for the entire Indian Coast Guard. It highlights the critical role played by the ICG in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests, especially amid the ever-evolving challenges at sea. The recognition of these brave men and women will undoubtedly inspire the force to continue its mission of excellence, ensuring maritime safety.

Following the ceremony, the awardees, along with their families, had the opportunity to interact with the Defence Minister and the Director General Indian Coast Guard, in line with ICG traditions, marking a fitting conclusion to this memorable occasion.
