Mussoorie, 3 Mar: Police have launched an awareness campaign against drug abuse in various schools of Mussoorie and students have been asked to take a pledge against the practice. Mussoorie Kotwal Santosh Kanwar said today that, on the instructions of the Director General of Police, a campaign is being launched against drug abuse in the entire state to prevent the increasing trend in society and to make the general public aware.

In compliance with the said campaign, Mussoorie Police visited various schools here and made parents, school staff and children aware against drug abuse and administered the oath of abstinence. The aim of the campaign is to make students aware of the harms and side effects of drug abuse so that they can stay away from drugs and lead a healthy life. This campaign educates children and youth about the physical, mental and social harms caused by drug abuse. Understanding the problems related to drug abuse motivates students to quit it.

He said that the awareness campaign tells students that they can live a better life by staying free from drugs. It gives them confidence and mental strength. Running such campaigns in schools sends a positive message against drug abuse in society. The young generation is inspired to avoid drugs and it helps in creating a better environment in society. He said that, under the campaign, painting, writing, essay and acting competitions are being organised among students against drug abuse, so that they can share information related on the subject in a creative way.
