U’khand receives National Award for TB Eradication

Delhi/Dehradun, 25 Mar: Due to continuous efforts of the state government, Uttarakhand has achieved significant success in TB eradication. The Government of India has awarded the state for its outstanding performance in community-based initiatives under the “TB-Free Panchayat Initiative.”

This award was presented by the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilisers, Jagat Prakash Nadda. The award was received by NHM Mission Director, Swati S Bhadauria.

Expressing happiness over this achievement, Uttarakhand Health Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat praised the efforts of the officials and also extended his gratitude to the people of the state for their support.

During a high-level programme organised by the Government of India in New Delhi, Union Health Minister JP Nadda lauded Uttarakhand’s efforts in TB eradication. He stated that Uttarakhand’s remarkable performance in this area will serve as a milestone in achieving the future goal of eliminating TB.

NHM Mission Director Swati S Bhadauria, highlighted that, under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, the TB eradication programme has been successfully implemented, leading to this national-level recognition from the Ministry of Health, Government of India.

She expressed her happiness over this honour, stating that this achievement is the result of joint efforts by the state government, health department, local administration, ASHA workers, Panchayati Raj institutions, social workers, and the community. She emphasized that special efforts have been made under the “TB-Free Panchayat Initiative” to ensure extensive awareness at the grassroots level, early identification, improved treatment, and community participation. The state has adopted an effective tracking system and a multi-sectoral approach for TB eradication.

She further mentioned that TB eradication in Uttarakhand has been embraced as a public movement, empowering village panchayats to monitor and control TB cases at their level. Through the “Nikshay Mitra Yojana,” private organizations, public representatives, and social workers have been involved, providing nutritional and social support to patients.
