Dehradun, 11 Apr: Reaffirming the commitment to making Uttarakhand India’s premier film destination, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said today the state government is working with a well-planned strategy to promote filmmaking. He announced that the state has now extended financial subsidies to films and web series released on OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sony Liv, Zee5, and JioCinema.

CM Dhami was speaking at the premiere of the Garhwali feature film, “Meri Pyari Boi”, held at Silver City Mall, Dehradun, where he congratulated the cast and crew and emphasised the state government’s strong support for all aspects of the film industry.

He stated that filmmaking not only creates direct employment but also strengthens tourism in the region. With support from the Department of Tourism, the government is working to identify and promote lesser known but scenic locations across Uttarakhand for film shoots.

Highlighting the recently implemented New Film Policy 2024, CM Dhami said the state offers a single-window system to streamline the shooting approval process. The policy provides:

  • 30% subsidy (up to Rs 3 crore) for films made in Hindi or languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
  • The same subsidy limit applies to big-budget (Rs 50 crore+) films and international productions.
  • Regional language films can receive subsidies up to Rs 2 crore.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the natural beauty, supportive local communities, and administrative cooperation make Uttarakhand an ideal filming destination. Picturesque locations such as Adi Kailash, Chakrata, and Mana are drawing attention from filmmakers nationwide.

Over 200 films have already been shot in Uttarakhand, and the new policy is giving a strong boost not only to Bollywood productions but also to films in regional dialects.

The event was attended by Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, the film’s entire team, and a large audience.
